Costa del Sol Holidays

All the major coasts in Spain are named, from Costa Blanca to Costa Dorada, but nothing speaks louder and clearer than Costa del Sol. The Costa del Sol, or coast of the sun, is known throughout the world for its magnificent climate and vast range of holiday resorts.

Costa del Sol holidays can range from Malaga (in the north) right down to La Linea (the Spanish town just next to the Spanish border with Gibraltar) and have a range of resorts in between.

Malaga

Malaga is one of Spain's largest cities and as such, most holidays to the Costa del Sol will start in Malaga Airport. The resorts for Costa del Sol holidays are no more than an hours ride away from the airport so you'll be sure to be close by to Malaga on your holiday and it is well worth a visit. If you're lucky enough to be staying on one of the resorts along the coast (and no further than Fuengirola) you'll be on the train line and this means that Malaga is only a short train ride away so make sure that you pay it a visit on your holiday as there are lots of cafes, restaurants and shops to be enjoyed.

Torremolinos

Torremolinos is probably one of the most famous resorts on the Costa del Sol and is home to Carihuela, which houses some of the nicest fish restaurants in Spain all lined along the beach so you really can listen to the waves crashing on to the beach whilst you enjoy your meal. Torremolinos has a great beach as well and so is the perfect destination if you're looking for a beach holiday.

Benalmadena

Just a short drive (or train ride) away from Torremolinos is the resort of Benalmadena. Well known to Brits it is probably more of a place to holiday if you're looking to spend the long evenings and nights in the bars and clubs that this resort has to offer. Take a trip to the 24 hour square whilst you're there as well to make sure that you get the full experience.

Fuengirola

You've probably already heard of Fuengirola which has a broad seafront and a wonderful sandy beach.

Marbella

If you're looking for a more luxurious Costa del Sol holidays then look no further than the resort of Marbella and nearby port of Puerto Banus. Home to the holidays of the rich and famous, Marbella is one of the nicest towns in Spain with a spectaular old town and vibrant town centre home to designer shops, exquisite restaurants and cafes that line the streets.

Puerto Banus

Nearby to Marbella is the resort of Puerto Banus and this really is luxury. Probably the most luxurious resort in Europe (and certainly Spain) Puerto Banus is centred around the port built by Jose Banus (a statue of Jose stands on one of the piers). Puerto Banus is home to some of the most exclusive designer shops in Spain and has has two lines along the port of restaurants, cafes and bars, some of which have been favoured by stars such as Frank Sinatra. Don't forget to take a look at the millionaire yachts on the last row of yachts in the port, some of them are truly spectacular.

Gibraltar

We're not sure whether Gibraltar is part of the Costa del Sol or not, but if you're on holiday to the coast then it sure is worth a day trip. Gibraltar truly is the UK in the sun, and you'll feel strangely at home when you see the traditional red post boxes and English traffic lights and policemen lining the streets. And make sure that you don't miss out on a trip up the mountain from which you'll see Africa and be able to say hello to the local apes. Churchill famously once said that Gibraltar would fall if the apes left so make sure that you don't scare them away!
