Holidays In Zante
Great beaches, warm sea, little fishing villages, ragged cliffs, green fertile landscape (due to the heavy winter rains). The north of the island is very busy and most commercialised. Visit the south of the island which is more tranquil and relatively unspoiled.
Late deals are almost always available, especially in spring and autumn when you can avoid the crowds. An all inclusive holiday will ensure that your delicious are meals, and drinks, do not eat into your spending money.
So what to see while you’re there. Tour the island either by the local transport which is cheap and frequent, or hire a car or jeep and get back to nature in the countryside.
The main town on the island is Zakynthos. Admire the Venetian and Neoclassic architecture, or a walk along the promenade.
Laganas Bay in the north is buzzing with nightlife- British teenagers on the loose looking for cheap booze, and more. Avoid the disco chaos and the clubbers by visiting out of season. This is the busiest resort on the island. Not much in the way of water sports here, but, take the free bus to St Nickolaos and enjoy the sports there. On the way is Zygia Sulphur Beach – beautiful golden beach, deep blue sea.
Loggerhead turtles come to Laganas Bay to breed. An endangered species, but the locals seem to be unwilling to protect them, as unfortunately their breeding season coincides with the main tourist season. However, some volunteers are working to ensure that turtle nests are not disturbed. If you are interested, speak to anyone of them and they will be very happy to give you any information regarding the turtles and their habitat.
See the Blue Caves. Visit early in the morning and take a trip on one of the smaller boats that go right into the caves. Try your hand at snorkelling to see the amazing marine life. Shipwreck Cove (or Navagio) is a romantic location – white pebble beach with a back drop of white cliffs. The rusty wreck is beached on the shore – not a pretty sight – but the scenery certainly makes up for it.
The island of Marathonisi in Keri Lake, is a pure delight – warm sea, beautiful beaches, turtle watching and scuba diving. Go to the island on the passenger boats, or for extra excitement, hire your own boat.
The water park at Tsilivi is the place for thrills and spills for all the family. Pools and slides. A great day out. If you don’t fancy the water park, then the beaches in this resort are fantastic, as are the local restaurants.
Just a few ideas to whet your appetite. This is the place to enjoy a bargain holiday – book up at the last minute and surprise yourself.
